Blepharitis affects nearly all patients older than 70 and can also affect younger patients. Blepharitis causes redness, a burning sensation, and grittiness on a daily basis for patients with this condition. Blepharitis is the accumulation of dead skin cells and oil around eyelashes. This also allows bacteria to grow and reproduce, which irritates our eyelids. Worse yet, microscopic mites called “demodex” which can cling to the base of our eyelashes.
We offer Cliradex products to help patients clean up their eyelids and lashes. Cliradex has “4-Terpineol” which is the active ingredient in tea tree oil. Cliradex kills demodex mites than inhabit eyelashes of patients who have blepharitis. The mechanical action of wiping Cliradex wipes or foam across the eyelid and eyelashes help to decrease the build up of dead skin cells and oil.
