Bausch & Lomb has developed a new over-the-counter dry eye drop, designed to decrease redness for patients suffering with dry eye. Redness-relieving products, such as Visine, are non-selective, which makes them less effective over time. “In contrast, low-dose brimonidine, the active ingredient in LUMIFY, selectively constricts veins in the eye, increasing the availability of oxygen to surrounding tissue, thereby reducing the potential risk of these side effects (1).” This new drop is advertised to start working in 60 seconds, and last up to 8 hours (2). Lumify is expected to be available later this month.
