Have you ever noticed your eyelids twitching?

Eyelid twitching, known as myokymia, usually lasts a few minutes up to a few days. Twitching usually comes and go; however, it is not painful. Myokymia usually resolves without treatment. Twitching eyelids can be alarming at first, but almost always does not pose any long-term problems.

Primary causes of myokymia include:

  • Stress
  • Caffeine intake
  • Lack of sleep

If lid twitching becomes a chronic nuisance, Botox injections can help to calm over-active lid muscles. This treatment is temporary and usually lasts a few months. Also, attempting to decrease stress or caffeine intake can help to lessen eyelid twitching.

Overall, lid twitching is annoying but rarely concerning. If you have further questions, please let us know!
