Glaucoma is a disease that’s known as the ‘silent thief of sight.’ Over time, glaucoma can constrict our peripheral vision and in severe cases cause blindness. Early and moderate stages of glaucoma may not be noticeable by the patient, making glaucoma testing important-to catch the disease as early as possible.

One of the tests we perform at Advanced Eye Care Center is ‘pachymetry.’ Pachymetry quickly and gently measures central corneal thickness. Corneal thickness has an impact on intraocular pressure (IOP) or the pressure within our eyes. If a patient has thinner than average corneal thickness, IOP measurements may be falsely lower. Along with several additional tests, pachymetry plays an important role in eye care.

Risk factors for glaucoma include age over 60, African Americans over the age of 40, and a family history of the disease. If these apply to you, please consider getting your eyes checked. Call 419-521-3937 to get started.
