For patients struggling with dry eyes, inflammation is usually to blame. Increased levels of inflammation are often presents before other clinical signs, like corneal staining. Advanced Eye Care Center offers InflammaDry as a diagnostic tool for patients who have or are at-risk for dry eye disease. InflammaDry acquires a small sample of tears and measures MMP-9 levels. MMP-9 is a known marker for ocular inflammation.

With a positive InflammaDry test, we know now that inflammation is present and treatment can begin. Sometimes short-term steroid use is indicated as well as possible Restasis or Xiidra therapy. Allergies may also increase levels of inflammation (we also offer allergy skin testing) This is important for dry eye disease because dry eye and inflammation exist in a cycle. Inflammation leads to dry eye and dry eye promotes more inflammation. Addressing ocular inflammation address dry eye at its root cause.
