A Wrinkle over Time

Dec 26, 2019

One condition that becomes more common over time is called macular pucker (also known as an epiretinal membrane). Macular pucker occurs most often in women and typically occurs after age 40. Macular pucker occurs when a thin, clear layer of cells (membrane) grows across our macula. If this membrane 'crinkles up,' vision can be distorted. In moderate and severe cases, straight lines may appear wavy and vision can appear distorted. In these cases treatment from a retinal specialist may be needed.

Thankfully, most patients do not notice much if any change in their vision. To see if you have an epiretinal membrane, or if you have noticed changes in your vision, please call to make an appointment today 419-521-3931!
