Prokera-an Advanced Tool in our Dry Eye Toolbox

Feb 16, 2021

Patients with advanced dry eye have another option for relief at Advanced Eye Care and Surgery Center. Prokera offers patients relief from constant grittiness, burning sensations, smeary vision, and pain associated with dry eye and other cornea conditions. How does Prokera work?

Prokera is a special bandage lens that nourishes, heals, and protects the corneal surface. Prokera is composed of amniotic tissue (placental tissue donated after live births). This stem-cell rich tissue is like no other dry eye treatment. Prokera is both inserted and removed in our office. This healing, soothing membrane typically remains on the surface of the eye for four-to-five days.

Prokera patients will often experience "a vacation from their dry eye symptoms" usually for six months or longer.  Prokera simply reduces inflammation on the corneal surface and helps it to get back to its natural state. Prokera is safe and natural.
