Why do my eyelids twitch?

Aug 10, 2020

Myokymia refers to the involuntary, spontaneous twitching that occurs in a localized area. Myokymia can affect the muscles in our eyelids and make it seem like our eye is twitching. Patients may experience several episodes of eyelid twitching throughout the day.  Eyelid twitching may seem alarming at first, but most cases are benign.

What are the primary causes eyelid twitching?
  • Excessive stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Caffeine
  • Dehydration
Thankfully eyelid twitching usually goes away on its own and no other treatment is required after addressing the above causes.
